Finally it arrived – my first non-training weekend, the weekend of the Team Honk baton relay in Manchester.
Team Honk is taking a (heavily) beribboned baton from Land’s End to John O’Groats by glider, scooter, buggy, bike and foot – every way imagjnable. There’s been Zumba, Morris dancing, pub crawls, rambling and in my case, plain old running in fancy dress.
You’ve got to play to your strengths.
The huge team of over 150 bloggers are doing this for Sport Relief. There’s been a massive effort from everyone – coordinating handovers, tweeting, posting, nudging for sponsorship. And I’m bloody thrilled to say we are already beyond our £20000 total and we’ve still got some way to go
Though I must admit, I’m a little disappointed with Manchester’s total which is still rather small….
In my ever so glamorous Queen of Hearts costume (one little girl in Sale called me a princess!), I was joined by Cheryl from the Alternative Student Guide, dressed as the White Rabbit, we met Adam of Gaming Daddy of Two and Laura of Tired Mummy of Two at Sale Leisure Centre ahead of our just over 5 mile run.
With Mr GFB cycling alongside for company, Cheryl and I set off along the canal to Stretford to collect Lisa, the Mad Hatter, who was joining us.
Carrying the banner in front of us, we’d like to thank everyone who beeped their horn, waved and encouraged us. And to the chap who stopped his van to give us chocolate, we offer our thanks as it was cold and windy and the thought of a Freddo when we finished, kept us going.
Finally, Keeley joined us on the last section as Alice. Our troop was complete and we finished the run up to the handover.
We arrived at Beetham Tower chilled, tired and ready to hand over to Karen from Grumpyish Mum who was to continue the relay with a pub crawl through the city centre.
I definitely didn’t think this through…
The baton has since moved through Prestwich and Atherton and this week it will be heading to Leyland, Preston and Morecambe adding another 53 miles to the total distance. We’re creeping up on the 3000 total distance.
