Three weeks left.
One more big run and I’ll firmly be in taper city where I can rest, stretch and prepare, but more on that next week.
For now it’s the last big training run next week, building my confidence, some shorter runs during the week and pure maintenance – keeping the weight comfortable, weights light and not too heavy, nothing that can cause injury.
This week saw me getting told off for doing too much by my trainer – and I’ve now had to drop my Monday evening Body Pump session, reducing my training days from 6 to 5. Though I know it’s for my own good, I’m not very happy about it. Up until these bigger distances it hasn’t been an issue. It feels a bit strange.
Following my blister issues last week, I invested in another set of ENGO. These things are brilliant and were a life saver for my last marathon.
Rather than you placing tape or a plaster on your foot to protect against blisters, these little stickers go into your trainers and onto the bit causing problems. In my case the blisters on my feet originated from the fabric on the arches becoming rough and rubbing through my socks.
I know that there are several styles of blister prevention socks on offer, with those recommended to me coming in at around £7.50 a pair. But value for money wise, I don’t think you can beat ENGO.
£5.95 later I have two circular ENGO patches in the offending spots and comfortable trainers again. The patches are secure and don’t rub off. They’ll eventually wear away, but my last pair of trainers ran out of life before that happened.
I can now put the Compeed away…
